Two additional arrests have been carried out in connection with the killing of a hotelier’s son in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Vineet Rai, aged 29 and son of hotelier Alok Rai, was fatally shot by four masked individuals in the Kotwali Police Station area of Ghazipur last month. Among the suspects, Kamlesh Bind, who had a bounty of Rs 1,00,000 on his head, was previously killed by the police, while the main accused, Shankar Pandey, remains at large.
The Kotwali police took action following the registration of a case against multiple unidentified persons in relation to the incident. They apprehended two suspects, Shivam Dubey and Rehman Ali alias Golden, and subsequently incarcerated them. Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Rakesh Mishra confirmed the arrests and stated that both individuals were found to be present at the scene and involved in the crime based on gathered evidence.
Officials disclosed that the arrests of Dubey and Ali took place near the Chaukia Mod overbridge in Ghazipur. The victim’s father had previously criticized the police for their alleged inaction against an extortion ring, accusing some officers of colluding with gang members. He called for strict measures, including encounters and demolitions, against the culprits. The primary suspect is believed to have ties to the purported “Katra Gang.”
Rai emphasized that his family harbors no personal grudges against anyone. He described the main suspect as a criminal figure heading the ‘Katra gang,’ residing in close proximity to their hotel. Additionally, the gang leader’s brother, who is the village Head (Pradhan), is also linked to this criminal group.
