Two tigers, a male and a female, were found dead in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district under suspicious circumstances, leading forest officials to launch a search operation. The carcasses were discovered in Banchachar village within the Jaisinghnagar range of the North Forest division. The tigress was found on Sunday evening, while the male tiger was located about 100 meters away the following morning.
Divisional Forest Officer Taruna Verma confirmed the deaths, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause. Post-mortem examinations are being conducted in accordance with regulations to establish the reason behind the demise of the big cats. Forest authorities, including dog squads and expert teams, are actively engaged in a search operation in the area.
Wildlife activist Ajay Dubey alleged that the tigers were electrocuted, attributing the deaths to an electric wire illegally placed by a farmer to protect crops from wild animals. He criticized the forest officials for negligence, holding them accountable for the incidents. Madhya Pradesh, known as the ‘Tiger State,’ recorded the highest number of tiger deaths in the country in 2025, with 55 reported fatalities.
