Two US Navy destroyers successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz and entered the Gulf despite facing threats from Iran. The USS Truxtun and USS Mason, accompanied by Apache helicopters and other aircraft, encountered a series of coordinated threats during their journey, as per Pentagon officials speaking anonymously. Despite Iran launching small boats, missiles, and drones in a sustained barrage, no US warship was hit.
US military efforts, supported by air assistance, effectively intercepted or deterred each incoming threat, ensuring the safety of the American vessels. President Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox News, remarked on Iran’s behavior, stating that they are “more malleable” now. He warned that any attempt by Iran to target US ships in the Strait of Hormuz would result in severe consequences.
In a separate interview with ABC News, Trump refrained from accusing Iran of violating the US-Iran ceasefire due to the attacks. Brad Cooper, chief of the US Central Command, confirmed that Iranian forces had launched multiple cruise missiles, drones, and small boats at the protected ships. US forces responded by sinking six Iranian small boats and intercepting several missiles and drones.
Iran, however, denied the US allegations, stating that no commercial vessels or oil tankers had passed through the Strait of Hormuz. The situation escalated from previous tensions, with joint US-Israeli strikes on Tehran leading to retaliatory attacks by Iran on US and Israeli targets. Following a ceasefire and unsuccessful talks in Islamabad, tensions remain high between the two nations.
