More than 340,000 individuals were relocated in Guangdong Province, southern China, by 4 pm on Saturday as Typhoon Noul neared the coast. Expected to hit between Shenzhen and Huilai, the typhoon could reach severe levels, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
China’s State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters raised the emergency response level to Level III in Guangdong on Saturday. By 4 pm, 19 cities and 135 county-level regions in Guangdong had activated emergency responses for strong winds or flooding.
Maritime authorities in Guangdong directed 5,109 vessels to safe areas, with an additional 418 vessels moved to shelter in neighboring regions. The Ministry of Water Resources also activated a Level-IV flood-control emergency response in seven provincial-level regions, including Guangdong.
To prepare for potential flooding, the ministry urged local water conservancy authorities to monitor weather changes closely, issue timely warnings, and utilize flood-control infrastructure effectively. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Emergency Management activated a Level-IV emergency response for geological disasters in several provinces.
