UAE captain Muhammad Waseem commended his team’s determination and resilience following their five-wicket triumph over Canada in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Aryansh Sharma’s unbeaten 74 and Sohaib Khan’s 51 led UAE to successfully chase down 151 runs with just two balls remaining. Waseem expressed satisfaction with the players’ performance, emphasizing the importance of self-belief.
He highlighted the need for improvement in the team’s batting strategy during the middle overs, particularly between the 7th and 16th over. Waseem acknowledged this area as crucial for enhancement in future matches and assured that they would focus on refining their approach. The captain also praised pacer Junaid Siddique for his exceptional bowling performance, securing five crucial wickets.
Siddique, named Player of the Match, credited his success to collaborative efforts with coaches in adapting to the playing conditions. He emphasized the significance of hitting hard lengths and varying pace with slower deliveries. Reflecting on Canada’s innings, Siddique noted their effective bowling in the final overs that restricted Canada to a chaseable total of 150 runs.
Canada skipper Dilpreet Bajwa appreciated the batting display by Aryansh and Sohaib, acknowledging the challenge posed by UAE’s successful chase. Bajwa attributed their loss to a lack of momentum in maintaining wickets and execution of bowling plans. He highlighted the need for improvement in the top order’s performance and urged the fast bowlers to regain their accuracy for upcoming matches.
