The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly denounced an Iranian “terrorist attack” on commercial vessels associated with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) labeled the incident a violation of UN Security Council resolution 2817, emphasizing the importance of freedom of navigation and condemning the targeting of commercial ships or disruption of international maritime pathways. The ministry revealed that the attack involved the use of two drones.
According to the ministry, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) engaging in targeting commercial ships and exploiting the Strait of Hormuz for blackmail or economic coercion is likened to acts of piracy, posing a direct threat to regional stability, its inhabitants, and global energy security. The UAE has urged Iran to cease such unprovoked actions and adhere to an immediate halt of all hostilities. It has emphasized the necessity for the complete and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to ensure regional security and uphold global economic and trade stability.
ADNOC, a major global oil and gas producer and a key driver of the UAE’s economic progress, was mentioned in the context of the attacked vessels. Meanwhile, the IRGC’s Navy claimed to have targeted a US Navy frigate with two missiles attempting to traverse the Strait of Hormuz. However, the US Central Command has refuted these claims, asserting that no US Navy ships were hit. US forces are actively involved in ‘Project Freedom,’ supporting and enforcing a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
US President Donald Trump has expressed the US’s commitment to guiding ships out of restricted waters through ‘Project Freedom,’ emphasizing that the conflict has no association with the vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. The US aims to ensure the safe passage of ships in the region.
