Two UAE tankers, Mombasa and Al Bahiyah, were hit by Iranian cruise missiles in the Strait of Hormuz in Omani waters. The attack resulted in the death of an Indian crew member on the Mombasa and left eight others injured, including four in serious condition. Both tankers suffered material damage from fires ignited during the attack, which has now been contained.
The UAE Ministry of Defense strongly condemned the assault, labeling it a severe breach of international law that endangers regional security. It asserted the UAE’s right to retaliate and safeguard its people, residents, national interests, and strategic assets. The ministry emphasized its readiness to address any threats and advised the public to rely on official sources for information and avoid spreading unverified details.
In a separate statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs also denounced the attack. Following the incident, the UAE Defense Ministry reported engaging missile and drone threats with its air defense systems, while Bahrain’s Interior Ministry urged residents to stay calm and move to secure locations. Reports indicated that US targets hit by Iranian strikes included a Patriot air defense system, an ammunition depot, and a military radar facility in Kuwait. In response, Iran targeted a US military communications facility and a radar site in Bahrain, and launched a ballistic missile strike on the US airbase in Qatar.
