UBT rebel legislator Sachin Ahir, who recently joined the Shiv Sena and filed a nomination for the Maharashtra Legislative Council’s Deputy Chairperson’s post, thanked Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Ahir criticized the Thackeray faction for labeling departing leaders negatively, expressing disappointment over their treatment.
Ahir, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, responded to being called a “traitor” and “opportunist” by the Thackeray faction. He expressed his willingness to address these criticisms in the appropriate political setting. Ahir defended his actions, questioning the sudden change in perception after parting ways with the group.
In response to Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut’s accusation of joining for selfish reasons, Ahir defended himself by highlighting his dedication to fulfilling responsibilities given by Uddhav and Aaditya Thackeray. He emphasized his past efforts to strengthen the party organization in Pune district during his tenure with UBT.
Ahir clarified that he did not leave any party and viewed his new role as Deputy Chairperson as an honor. He remained non-committal about his future political moves in his traditional stronghold of Worli, stating his commitment to fulfilling responsibilities assigned by Eknath Shinde. Ahir cited “unavoidable circumstances” for his departure in a letter to Uddhav Thackeray, expressing gratitude for the opportunities provided by the party.
