DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin has criticized the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government for its handling of a sexual assault case in Srivaikuntam, Thoothukudi district. He questioned Chief Minister Vijay’s commitment to women’s safety in Tamil Nadu, referring to allegations by a woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted after being promised a job. The victim accused individuals linked to TVK MLA Saravanan of the assault and claimed that efforts were made to cover up the incident.
Udhayanidhi highlighted that the victim alleged MLA Saravanan tried to mediate a compromise and promised her a job. He also mentioned another woman who faced a similar ordeal and accused a government minister of being aware of the situation. The DMK leader criticized the government for allegedly ignoring the issue and expelling the victim from the party instead of taking action against the perpetrators.
Questioning the government’s sincerity in addressing sexual assault cases, Udhayanidhi called for a thorough investigation and justice for the victim. He demanded the removal of MLA Saravanan from office and urged the government to take strict action against all those involved in the alleged assault. Despite the allegations, the TVK government has not responded officially to Udhayanidhi’s claims.
