Uganda Athletics has finalized its team for the 2026 World Athletics Relays, to be held in Gaborone, Botswana. The squad, consisting of four athletes, was confirmed by Uganda Athletics Federation president Dominic Otuchet. The event is scheduled to take place at the Botswana National Stadium on May 2-3, marking the first time the competition will be held in Africa.
Botswana, as the host country, will welcome athletes from various nations, including South Africa, the United States, Canada, Botswana, Britain, Jamaica, Spain, and Kenya. Despite financial constraints limiting Uganda’s team to four runners without reserves, preparations are in progress. Otuchet praised the athletes and coaches for their dedication and efforts in gearing up for the event.
The 2026 World Athletics Relays in Gaborone will not only be a significant sporting event but also serve as a qualifier for the 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest and the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing. The top six teams in the Mixed 4×100 meters relay and 4×400 meters relay will secure direct entry to Budapest, while the top 12 teams in each event will qualify for Beijing.
