Uganda has confirmed six additional cases of Ebola, bringing the total number of infections in the current outbreak to 15, as per the Ministry of Health. These new cases were found among contacts of previously confirmed patients. Currently, 12 Ebola patients are receiving treatment in facilities, while two have been discharged after recovery, according to the ministry’s latest update.
The East African nation declared the recent Ebola outbreak in May following the confirmation of two imported cases of Ebola Virus Disease, one of which resulted in a fatality. Health authorities are closely monitoring 668 contacts associated with confirmed cases to prevent further spread of the disease. Charles Olaro, the director general of health services at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the importance of individuals with Ebola-like symptoms seeking early medical attention for better chances of survival.
Efforts to contain the disease involve intensified contact tracing, surveillance, and public awareness campaigns. In a separate development, India has sent a second batch of medical aid to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) to support the continent’s response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak. This assistance includes protective gear, diagnostic and monitoring equipment, medicines, and nutritional supplements, with India expressing confidence that this 43-tonne consignment will enhance public health preparedness and reinforce Ebola response capabilities across Africa.
India had previously dispatched the initial tranche of urgent medical supplies and protective kits to the Africa CDC on May 24.
