The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) introduced the Aadhaar mascot, ‘Udai,’ aiming to enhance public understanding of Aadhaar services. This initiative, supported by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, seeks to make Aadhaar-related information more accessible and user-friendly. CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar highlighted the importance of public involvement in designing the mascot, emphasizing that participation fosters trust and acceptance in Aadhaar as a public good.
The mascot, ‘Udai,’ is envisioned to streamline communication regarding various Aadhaar services, including updates, authentication, offline verification, and responsible information sharing. Through a national design and naming competition on the MyGov platform, UIDAI engaged individuals from diverse backgrounds to contribute their interpretations of Aadhaar’s significance. The selection process, involving 875 entries nationwide, resulted in the creation of ‘Udai,’ reflecting a blend of public imagination and institutional diligence.
Winners of the mascot design and naming competitions were recognized, with Arun Gokul, Idris Dawaiwala, Krishna Sharma, Riya Jain, and others receiving accolades for their contributions. Neelkanth Mishra, Chairman of UIDAI, unveiled the mascot during a ceremony in Thiruvananthapuram, marking a significant milestone in UIDAI’s mission to enhance Aadhaar communication for India’s residents.
