Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, met with India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Friday to discuss bilateral relations and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. NSA Doval emphasized India’s commitment to seeking a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy during the meeting. India has consistently supported dialogue and diplomacy as the key methods to address the conflict in Ukraine, which began in February 2022.
Later in the day, Umerov also had a meeting with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar. The discussions focused on bilateral cooperation and exchanging views on the Ukraine conflict. Last month, EAM Jaishankar engaged with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in France. They deliberated on West Asia developments, regional stabilization, and the importance of global supply chain functionality, reaffirming their commitment to enhancing bilateral ties.
In December, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s stance on supporting peace regarding the Ukraine issue and urged for a peaceful and enduring resolution. PM Modi, during a joint press statement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressed India’s consistent advocacy for peace in the Ukraine situation and welcomed efforts towards a peaceful and lasting resolution. India stands prepared to contribute to achieving peace in the region.
