UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Yvette Cooper, is scheduled to visit New Delhi for a two-day trip starting Wednesday. During her visit, she will meet with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, announced that discussions between India and the UK will cover various areas of cooperation, including security, economic, and defense matters. The focus will also be on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and enhancing trade relations between the two nations.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal expressed satisfaction after engaging in productive discussions with UK’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Peter Kyle. The talks aimed at advancing economic ties between India and the UK, emphasizing shared business priorities, and strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
The upcoming meeting between the officials comes in the wake of increased economic and trade collaboration between India and the UK, following the signing of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) in July 2025. This development underscores the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval recently hosted British counterpart Jonathan Powell for the annual India-UK Strategic Dialogue in New Delhi. The discussions revolved around bolstering the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a specific focus on enhancing defense and security cooperation.
EAM Jaishankar also engaged in talks with Powell, emphasizing the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation, especially in the context of regional and global security challenges. The interactions between Indian and UK officials underscore the commitment to strengthening ties across various sectors.
