UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres commended India for its leadership in the AI domain during meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. Guterres praised India for organizing the AI Impact Summit and its collaboration with the United Nations, as per the UN readouts.

During his discussion with Guterres, PM Modi highlighted the importance of UN reforms, particularly in empowering the Global South. UN Under-Secretary-General Amandeep Singh Gill, responsible for the organization’s AI and digital initiatives, accompanied Guterres in both meetings.

Guterres, currently in New Delhi for the India AI Impact Summit, emphasized the need to democratize AI and ensure inclusivity, especially for the Global South. PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to leveraging AI for global welfare and inclusivity.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned PM Modi’s focus on human-centric AI development aligned with the Global South’s priorities. President Murmu appreciated Guterres’ involvement in the AI Impact Summit and endorsed his proposal for a global scientific panel on AI.
