The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs announced the reopening of the Rafah crossing, allowing medical evacuations for Gaza residents seeking treatment outside the region. This move follows a two-day closure by Israeli authorities. Additionally, the Kerem Shalom/Karem Abu Salem crossing has resumed operations for transporting food and humanitarian supplies, albeit with significant constraints.
The World Food Programme recently assisted approximately 1.4 million individuals in Gaza with various aid, including food parcels, bread bundles, hot meals, and malnutrition treatment. Moreover, cash aid was provided to around 500,000 people, as reported on the agency’s website. Palestinian armed groups, with Israeli support, detained multiple individuals, including ambulance crew members from the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
In response to these actions, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights called on Israel to uphold public order and safety in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of not obstructing medical services. Meanwhile, reports of violence against Palestinians by Israeli forces and settlers persist in the West Bank. OCHA documented 57 Palestinian fatalities this year in the West Bank, including children and women, with the majority attributed to Israeli forces.
The UN has raised concerns over settler-related incidents causing casualties and property damage, averaging six incidents daily across more than 230 communities. Stressing the need to protect civilians, including healthcare workers, and uphold international law, the United Nations reiterates its call for compliance with these principles.
