The Office of the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen wrapped up a series of Military Coordination Committee (MCC) meetings in Amman, Jordan, discussing recent developments in Yemen and the region. Representatives from the Yemeni government and the Saudi-led coalition’s Joint Forces Command gathered to focus on ceasefire planning, maritime security, and tension reduction. UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg emphasized the importance of such engagements in the evolving security landscape for Yemen and the region.
The MCC, established in April 2022 as part of a UN-brokered truce to facilitate military dialogue and de-escalation, is set to convene all three delegations, including the Houthi group, in the near future. Yemen has faced conflict since late 2014, with Houthi forces seizing control of Sanaa and escalating tensions in 2015.
During his visit to Riyadh, UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg met with Yemeni officials, including the President of the Presidential Leadership Council Rashad Al Alimi and other key figures. Discussions revolved around maintaining stability, addressing economic challenges, and advancing the UN-sponsored political process. Grundberg highlighted the need for continued regional and international support to achieve a peaceful resolution in Yemen.
