Despite the Election Commission of India’s decision to release the first supplementary list of voters for judicial adjudication, uncertainty surrounds the timing of the action. Initially planned for Friday, the release of the list may be delayed based on pending reports and security concerns.
Over 60 lakh cases were referred for judicial adjudication due to voter identification discrepancies, with around 25 lakh cases processed by March 19. The availability of booth-specific reports and security considerations for judicial officers are key factors influencing the list’s publication.
The Election Commission awaits reports from remaining booths to finalize the supplementary list. Security measures for 732 judicial officers, including reinforcements from neighboring states, are being reviewed to prevent potential unrest over deleted voter names.
Approximately 34% of cases processed are subject to exclusion, with affected voters having the right to appeal to Appellate Tribunals. The upcoming two-phase polling in West Bengal is scheduled for April 23 and 29, covering a total of 294 Assembly constituencies.
