The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) expressed concern over a series of drone incidents near its positions in southern Lebanon. Drones suspected to be linked to Hezbollah exploded near UNIFIL’s headquarters in Naqoura on Monday and Tuesday, posing a threat to peacekeepers and causing damage to UN facilities. Despite the explosions occurring close to the headquarters, no injuries were reported. UNIFIL raised alarms about the presence of Hezbollah members and Israeli soldiers near its positions.
Israel’s military chief, Eyal Zamir, stated that Israel’s military operations in the Middle East, including Lebanon, Gaza, and the West Bank, are ongoing. Israeli troops reportedly crossed the Litani River and maintained operational control in Lebanon. The Israeli military conducted airstrikes in southern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of at least eight individuals, including two children. Additionally, Israel targeted over 40 Hezbollah infrastructure sites in southern Lebanon within 24 hours.
The escalation in hostilities comes after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, which came into effect in mid-April. The ceasefire followed a period of heightened cross-border clashes related to the broader regional conflict involving Iran. Despite the ceasefire, military activities have persisted, with both sides engaging in operations and airstrikes in the region.
