Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged the launch of the ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ starting Monday to educate farmers nationwide about the harmful effects of excessive chemical fertilizers and pesticides on soil health. The campaign will kick off on June 1 from Ramsiya village in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district. Chouhan emphasized the need for awareness on balanced fertilizer use, soil testing, natural farming, water conservation, and identifying counterfeit agricultural products.
Chouhan highlighted the challenges faced by agriculture due to rising temperatures, improper chemical use, soil degradation, and climate crises. He stressed the importance of timely awareness and practical solutions. The campaign will focus on promoting sustainable agricultural practices, field demonstrations, and strengthening farmers’ confidence through scientific evidence and practical examples.
The Agriculture Minister directed the preparation of a detailed roadmap by June 30, assigning specific tasks to officers, scientists, and institutions for village visits. He emphasized the crucial role of state agriculture departments and the need for coordinated efforts among various stakeholders. Chouhan also called for the involvement of elected representatives and public support organizations in promoting natural farming and sustainable agriculture practices.
Chouhan announced his personal involvement in visiting villages across different states during the campaign and engaging directly with farmers. He emphasized the multi-dimensional aspect of the campaign, ensuring that government schemes and benefits reach farmers effectively. Publicity and outreach were highlighted as essential components to maximize the campaign’s impact and stressed the importance of media interaction to raise awareness about the initiative.
