Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will unveil a budget of Rs 18,907 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for the financial year 2026-27. This announcement coincides with the 25th anniversary of the PMGSY and the national launch of PMGSY-IV. The move aims to enhance rural connectivity and facilitate better access to economic opportunities, education, healthcare, and agricultural markets in rural regions.
A significant portion of this allocation, amounting to Rs 830 crore, has been earmarked for the development of Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav is also expected to participate in the upcoming event. The silver jubilee celebrations are scheduled to take place at Bhairunda in Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore district, signifying a crucial milestone in the rural development journey of India.
Minister Chouhan will lead the event, emphasizing the government’s dedication to connecting villages with durable, all-weather paved roads. The initiative is not just a governmental affair but a grand celebration of rural transformation, social inclusivity, and the commitment to extending development to the grassroots through infrastructure expansion.
During the event, Minister Chouhan will distribute approval letters and financial allocations under PMGSY-IV to Chief Minister Yadav for 973 roads, collectively spanning 2,117 kilometers in Madhya Pradesh. These projects are anticipated to benefit 987 settlements across the state. Additionally, road projects covering over 384 kilometers under the PM-JANMAN initiative will be sanctioned, directly benefiting 168 underprivileged settlements.
Minister Chouhan has consistently stressed that village roads are not just transportation routes but pathways to prosperity, education, healthcare, markets, employment, and a dignified life. The silver jubilee celebrations of PMGSY and the launch of PMGSY-IV are viewed as pivotal strides towards propelling rural India to new developmental heights in the forthcoming years.
