The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light to two new semiconductor projects as part of the India Semiconductor Mission. These projects, to be located in Gujarat with a total investment of about Rs 3,936 crore, are anticipated to create job opportunities for approximately 2,230 skilled workers.
One of the approved projects will be executed by Crystal Matrix Limited in Dholera, Gujarat, focusing on compound semiconductor fabrication, assembly, testing, marking, and packaging. This facility will specialize in manufacturing Mini/Micro-LED display modules and offer GaN foundry services.
The second project, sanctioned for Suchi Semicon Private Limited in Surat, will establish an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility. With a projected production capacity exceeding 1,033 million chips annually, this unit will produce discrete semiconductors catering to various sectors like power electronics, analog integrated circuits, and industrial systems.
These approvals bring the total number of projects endorsed under the India Semiconductor Mission to 12, with total investments nearing Rs 1.64 lakh crore. The government expects these initiatives to significantly boost India’s semiconductor capabilities and complement the nation’s growing prowess in chip design.
