Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted that the IIMs can play a crucial role in India’s progress towards becoming a developed nation by fostering innovation ecosystems and adapting to global challenges. Leading a meeting of the Coordination Forum of Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in Ahmedabad, Pradhan discussed the significance of IIMs in shaping Viksit Bharat 2047. The focus was on areas like student welfare, academic excellence, innovation, and global competitiveness.
The Minister acknowledged the IIMs as key drivers of nation-building and economic growth, setting benchmarks in leadership and management education globally. The meeting, organized by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), took place at the IIM Ahmedabad campus. Participants deliberated on various aspects, including the role of IIMs in achieving Viksit Bharat goals and aligning undergraduate entrance exams with future needs.
The gathering included Chairpersons of the Boards of Governors of IIMs, Directors of IIMs, and senior officials from the Department of Higher Education and State Governments of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. Discussions revolved around enhancing collaboration and coordination among IIMs to address shared interests effectively. The importance of the Coordination Forum in promoting synergy among IIMs was underscored by Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi.
The forum addressed critical issues such as the contribution of IIMs towards Viksit Bharat objectives, aligning entrance exams with future demands, and formulating admission procedures for MBA programs. Other topics included facilitating student exchanges among IIMs, refund policies, and initiatives to support young faculty members and newer IIMs. The Minister also discussed the implementation of reservation policies for faculty and non-faculty positions.
