Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan unveiled two strategic documents on Bharat Innovates, highlighting India’s growing innovation and startup ecosystem linked to higher education and research institutions. This move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s goal of shifting India towards becoming a hub of knowledge creators and technology leaders. The showcased startups in the documents are emerging from top Indian institutions, incubators, and research setups, showcasing the nation’s increasing innovation potential in higher education.
The initiative, Bharat Innovates, resonates with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to elevate India’s innovation prowess globally. It also supports the broader objective of fostering innovation-driven progress in India. Notable officials including Principal Scientific Adviser Ajay Kumar Sood and representatives from various education departments were present during the release event. Bharat Innovates aims to connect Indian startups with global investment firms, with over $3 trillion in assets, to foster international partnerships and investments in the deep-tech and innovation sectors.
Pradhan highlighted the substantial investor interest generated by the initiative, with nearly $20 million in commitments. Roadshows in Paris, Tokyo, and Bengaluru have been conducted to facilitate connections between Indian startups and global investors. The strategic documents released include the Bharat Innovates Startup Compendium, featuring 120 promising startups from across India, and a compilation of 50 advanced research and innovation projects from esteemed institutions like IITs and IISc. Additionally, the Ministry of Education will host Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, France, showcasing 120 elite Deep Tech innovators selected from a pool of 3,000 ventures, emphasizing India’s research capabilities in key sectors like space, defense, biotechnology, and quantum computing.
