Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has embarked on a two-day official visit to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Her itinerary includes various programs focusing on education, heritage conservation, and community engagement. Sitharaman, who arrived in Chennai from New Delhi, kicked off her visit with the launch of the book ‘Daughters of Kanchi – The SSKV Story’ at the SSKV College of Arts and Science for Women in Kanchipuram. The book celebrates the institution’s history and its efforts in promoting women’s education and empowerment.
Sitharaman is set to engage with students, educators, and local residents during her visit to Kanchipuram district. Known for her promotion of the region’s handloom heritage, she will also visit Puducherry to inaugurate the renovated historic lighthouse at the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Commissionerate campus. The restoration project aims to preserve the colonial-era landmark and enhance its cultural significance. Additionally, she will unveil the restored 400-year-old Muzhiankulam at a government middle school in Puducherry as part of broader efforts to conserve heritage structures and improve community infrastructure.
This official visit underscores the government’s commitment to educational development, cultural preservation, and community engagement through significant projects in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
