The Union government has given the green light to two significant railway initiatives in Kerala, as per BJP MP Suresh Gopi. These projects involve doubling the Alappuzha-Ambalappuzha railway line and constructing the Palakkad Town-Parali bypass line. Suresh Gopi highlighted that these approvals signify a major advancement in Kerala’s railway sector and demonstrate the government’s dedication to enhancing transportation infrastructure in the state.
The decision, made under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, is expected to tackle long-standing operational challenges affecting both passenger and freight services. The Alappuzha-Ambalappuzha line doubling project, spanning 12.66 kilometers on a crucial route, is set to receive an investment of Rs 324.16 crore. Once completed, this project will enable the introduction of nine additional passenger train services daily in both directions, leading to improved punctuality and operational flexibility on a heavily utilized coastal rail route.
Additionally, the Palakkad Town-Parali bypass line, aimed at easing rail operations in the Palakkad region, is anticipated to enhance train movements and reduce delays at Palakkad Town station. Despite these developments, concerns arise as the state government and Metroman E. Sreedharan are focusing on different high-speed rail projects, which were not addressed in the Union budget. With the Assembly elections approaching, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan might emphasize the narrative of Kerala being neglected by the Centre, contrasting with Gopi’s praise for the railway projects.
