Union Home Minister Amit Shah revealed that the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have successfully planted 6.40 crore trees nationwide in the last eight years. This initiative aims to safeguard forests and enhance India’s environment.
Shah, speaking to BSF personnel at the Lankamura Border Outpost in West Tripura district, mentioned that this year’s focus includes replanting trees that did not survive previous plantation drives. The CAPF plans to plant 40 to 60 lakh trees this year and aims to plant two crore trees next year as part of their ongoing efforts.
Highlighting the importance of preserving forests and combating climate change, Shah emphasized the need for increasing forest cover and adopting eco-friendly practices. He stressed that protecting the environment is crucial for sustainable development and the well-being of future generations.
On World Environment Day, Shah, accompanied by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and other officials, planted various tree saplings at the Lankamura Border Outpost. He urged all stakeholders to prioritize afforestation, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on environmental conservation and energy efficiency.
Shah underscored India’s commitment to the Paris Agreement on climate change and emphasized the nation’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable practices. He warned that failure to address environmental challenges could render the planet uninhabitable, urging immediate action to mitigate climate impacts.
