Union Home Minister Amit Shah revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated a campaign to eliminate symbols of slavery in the country. During the inauguration of projects worth Rs 373 crore in Andaman and Nicobar’s Ross Island, Shah mentioned the renaming of islands after Netaji Subhas Babu and brave soldiers, along with the renaming of Port Blair to Sri Vijaynagaram.
Shah emphasized the importance of understanding the new justice codes introduced to abolish British laws and restore Indian citizens’ rights and dignity. He highlighted the historical significance of the islands, where Netaji Subhas Babu declared independent India and hoisted the Tricolour. Additionally, Modi Ji renamed two islands as ‘Shaheed’ and ‘Swaraj’ in honor of Netaji.
The government’s focus on promoting tourism, development, and enhancing security in small islands was underscored by Shah. He described the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a pivotal location for freedom, sovereignty, maritime power, and economic activities in the Indo-Pacific region. Shah expressed confidence that the islands, once considered a financial burden, would significantly contribute to the country’s treasury in the next decade.
