Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lead a special commemorative program in Kolkata on Monday to mark the 125th Birth anniversary of ‘Bharat Kesari’ Syama Prasad Mookerjee. The Ministry of Culture, along with the Government of West Bengal, will host the event at Milan Mela Prangan in Kolkata. Notable attendees will include Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, and other distinguished guests.
The nationwide commemoration of the 125th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee was announced by the Ministry of Culture. This initiative aims to honor the remarkable contributions of Mookerjee, a visionary leader who played a significant role in shaping India’s political, cultural, educational, and industrial landscape. The program will kick off with floral tributes at Mookerjee’s residence in Bhawanipore, Kolkata.
During the commemorative event, Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Eco Park to perform the Bhoomi Poojan and lay the foundation stone for a proposed 125-foot statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Additionally, a special exhibition highlighting Mookerjee’s life and legacy will be inaugurated at Milan Mela Prangan. The exhibition will showcase rare photographs, archival documents, and multimedia displays tracing his journey and contributions.
The commemorative program at Milan Mela Prangan will include a mass rendition of Vande Mataram, followed by a musical tribute titled “Sur, Sanskriti evam Rashtra” by the Centre For Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT). This musical ensemble, directed by Padma Shri Tarun Bhattacharya, will feature 57 artists representing various Indian music traditions, symbolizing the country’s cultural richness and unity. The event will also feature a short film and a special video on Mookerjee’s life and the statue project.
The two-year nationwide commemoration reflects the Government of India’s commitment to preserving the legacy of Syama Prasad Mookerjee. It aims to inspire current and future generations with his ideals of nationalism, public service, and dedication to India’s unity and progress.
