Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the Border Security Force’s (BSF) 18th Battalion Border Outpost (BOP) in Siliguri, near the India-Bangladesh border on Saturday. The visit, starting at 11 A.M., will involve interactions with BSF personnel, addressing a ‘Prahari Sammelan’, participating in a plantation drive, and inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for various BSF infrastructure projects.
Following the activities at Jumagach, Amit Shah will lead a high-level meeting at the Uttarkanya Auditorium in Siliguri at 1:30 P.M. to discuss border management and security-related matters in West Bengal. The focus will be on enhancing security in North Bengal’s border regions, including the strategically vital Siliguri Corridor, also known as the ‘Chicken’s Neck’.
Later in the day, at 4:15 P.M., the Home Minister will assess the implementation of three new criminal laws in the state. Subsequently, at 5:45 P.M., another meeting will be held to review issues concerning birth and death registration in West Bengal. Amit Shah will then depart for Kolkata after concluding his engagements in Siliguri.
On Sunday, the Home Minister will chair a meeting to address the law-and-order situation in West Bengal. He is also set to meet with the Superintendents of Police (SPs) and District Magistrates (DMs) of all border districts in South Bengal to evaluate security and administrative readiness.
During his visit to Kolkata, Amit Shah will inaugurate the newly constructed World Museum at the National Library and lay the foundation stone for Amul Bengal Dairy’s new curd manufacturing plant. His three-day visit to West Bengal is primarily aimed at reviewing border security, law and order, governance initiatives, and infrastructure development in the state.
