Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled for a two-day visit to West Bengal at the end of January, ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in the state later this year. He will arrive in Kolkata on the evening of January 30 and hold a meeting with the core committee members of the BJP to discuss poll preparedness issues. The following day, on January 31, Shah will address a public rally in Barrackpore, North 24 Parganas district, known for its high population of Hindi-speaking voters.
Political analysts see Shah’s visit as a significant move by the BJP, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Nitin Nabin’s recent visits to the state. Modi addressed rallies in Malda and Singur earlier this month, while Nabin is currently on a two-day visit to West Bengal. Shah’s previous visit focused on internal organizational meetings, but this upcoming trip will include both administrative activities and a public meeting. The BJP’s repeated engagements in West Bengal indicate the party’s serious approach towards the upcoming State Assembly elections.
