Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, accused Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar of a long-standing strategy to acquire agricultural land in Bidadi. Kumaraswamy claimed that Shivakumar had been aiming to develop real estate in the area for years, allegedly encouraging farmers to hold onto their land for future lucrative returns.
Kumaraswamy highlighted remarks made by Shivakumar in 2023, suggesting a plan to rename Ramanagara district as “Bengaluru South.” He pointed out official decisions and notifications supporting this claim, indicating a systematic effort to acquire land in the region. The Union Minister also criticized the establishment of the Greater Bengaluru Development Authority and alleged misuse of authority in land acquisition proceedings.
In response to allegations regarding a township project, Kumaraswamy clarified that he had abandoned the project following public opposition. He criticized the government’s infrastructure management in Bengaluru and accused Shivakumar of intimidating landowners. Kumaraswamy expressed solidarity with farmers and pledged his support in their legal battles, emphasizing fair compensation for their land.
