Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi criticized the Karnataka government for allegedly causing the closure of numerous government schools due to administrative failures. Joshi claimed that student enrollment has significantly dropped under the Congress-led government, attributing it to internal power struggles that have hampered effective governance.
Joshi, in a statement, highlighted the adverse impact of the government’s alleged negligence on the education sector, stating that thousands of government schools, vital for underprivileged and middle-class children, are on the brink of shutting down. He referred to the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) report, which reportedly shows a consistent decline in student numbers in government schools across the state.
According to Joshi, the UDISE+ report indicates a continuous decrease in student enrollment in government schools each year. He expressed concern over the situation, noting that approximately 2.12 lakh students have left government schools in the past three years, signaling a failure on the part of the state government to enhance public education.
Joshi emphasized that the Congress government’s focus should have been on strengthening public schools; however, he alleged that their actions have led to the closure of these institutions, labeling it as their major accomplishment. He further criticized the government for neglecting the basic infrastructure of government schools while expressing worry over the rise of drug-related issues in Karnataka, which he described as a significant concern affecting the youth.
