Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar criticized the Congress government in Telangana for prolonging the phone-tapping case investigation, likening it to a drawn-out television series. He specifically pointed out the government’s reluctance to take action against the family of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).
Speaking to the media in Karimnagar, Bandi Sanjay Kumar highlighted the appearance of KCR’s son and BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with probing the phone-tapping allegations from the previous BRS government. The BJP leader accused the Congress government of theatrics under the guise of SIT investigation.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar reiterated his claims that KTR was involved in phone-tapping activities centered around Sircilla and alleged that numerous families suffered due to these actions. He expressed skepticism about any significant arrests occurring in the investigation, citing the government’s purported lack of resolve to act against the KCR family.
The Minister of State emphasized the need for accountability, stating that those responsible for the phone tapping should face consequences. He also criticized the government for not empowering the SIT adequately, questioning the absence of arrests of political figures in the case. Bandi Sanjay Kumar asserted that had the BJP been in power in the state, they would have taken decisive action against KCR’s family.
Reacting to KTR’s defense, Bandi Sanjay Kumar differentiated the Telangana phone tapping incidents from those related to national security. He alleged that the phone tapping in Telangana targeted individuals such as actresses, businessmen, political leaders, and judges under the pretext of combating Maoists. Bandi Sanjay Kumar had previously provided his testimony to the SIT in August last year as a witness in the case.
