Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying and Panchayati Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh unveiled various measures to enhance the cooperative dairy industry in Mizoram. During his visit to the Mizoram Multi-Commodity Producers Cooperative Union (MULCO) dairy unit in Aizawl district, he praised the progress made by MULCO and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Central and state governments for further development.
Singh highlighted the need to increase milk production in Mizoram to meet local demands and urged stakeholders to enhance their efforts. He announced new initiatives, including a revised funding ratio of 90:10 between the Centre and the state, aiming to ease financial burdens and expedite dairy sector growth. Additionally, plans were revealed to upgrade milk-processing plants and improve cattle breeds and feed accessibility for farmers in partnership with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
The Union Minister also disclosed plans to promote MULCO products like paneer, rasmalai, and ghee in local markets to boost business opportunities and farmer incomes. Stressing the Central Government’s commitment to supporting Northeast development, Singh underscored the importance of active involvement from the state government and livestock farmers for the success of these initiatives.
Several new products and initiatives were launched during the event, including MULCO Cow Ghee, fisheries-related certificates, and awards for fisheries cooperatives. Commissioner and Secretary of the Cooperation Department, Udit Prakash Rai, outlined strategies to strengthen Mizoram’s cooperative dairy sector, while NDDB Chairman Meenesh Shah emphasized the significance of enhancing dairy cooperatives and milk-processing infrastructure in the region.
