Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, highlighted significant initiatives for Uttarakhand, including a Rs 100 crore Clean Plant Programme, Rs 1700 crore for rural roads, and over Rs 65 crore for crop damage compensation. These efforts aim to boost the state’s agriculture and rural economy. A modern Clean Plant Centre will produce disease-free saplings of various fruits, addressing the issue of poor-quality planting material.
Chouhan also revealed plans for a Centre of Excellence for kiwi cultivation in collaboration with New Zealand to position Uttarakhand as India’s horticulture capital. An integrated farming model will be developed for small landholders, incorporating various agricultural activities to enhance income. The minister emphasized the need to accelerate the growth of farmer income in the state.
Furthermore, a five-year agricultural roadmap for Uttarakhand will be prepared by a team of experts in consultation with farmers and stakeholders. Chouhan praised the farmers for their hard work and announced direct financial assistance to those affected by crop losses. The newly launched Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) scheme will provide employment opportunities and address the shortcomings of existing programs.
Chouhan reiterated the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment through the Lakhpati Didi Abhiyan, noting the success of empowering thousands of women. The Centre’s support aims to transform Uttarakhand’s agricultural landscape and rural economy for the better.
