Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, unveiled a significant package of development initiatives in Madhya Pradesh to commemorate the “Silver Jubilee celebrations” of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Bherunda, Sehore district. The state secured approvals totaling Rs 1,763 crore under PMGSY-IV for rural roads, Rs 261.81 crore under PM-JANMAN projects, and Rs 2,055 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).
These declarations were made in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and other dignitaries, signaling a strong commitment to enhancing rural infrastructure and housing development. Emphasizing the importance of roads as pathways to prosperity, education, healthcare, and markets, Shivraj Chouhan pledged to sanction all eligible roads in Madhya Pradesh meeting PMGSY criteria.
He highlighted the approval of 973 roads covering 2,117 km under PMGSY-IV, benefiting nearly 987 habitations. In Vidisha alone, projects worth over Rs 500 crore have been allocated for 259 roads spanning 600 km. Additionally, under PM-JANMAN, 384 km of roads will be constructed, benefiting 168 habitations.
Madhya Pradesh has been allocated Rs 830 crore from the national PMGSY budget for 2026-27. Union Minister Chouhan handed over the sanction of Rs 2,055 crore under PMAY-G to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, assuring that every impoverished family would receive a permanent house after physical verification. He also emphasized empowering women through the Lakhpati Didi campaign and accelerating self-help group initiatives.
Addressing farmers, Chouhan promised fair treatment in wheat procurement and the resolution of pending verification issues for eligible farmers. The event took on a political tone as Chouhan commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and criticized the Congress for overlooking rural development in the past. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav praised Chouhan’s efforts and reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to meeting public demands in collaboration with the Union government.
