Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently sanctioned 6,18,482 pucca houses for impoverished rural residents in Uttar Pradesh under the new phase of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). This initiative, spanning from 2024–25 to 2028–29, is part of the government’s plan to construct an additional two crore pucca houses nationwide. The move is set to provide permanent housing to numerous underprivileged rural families in the state.
In a bid to support farmers, Minister Chouhan extended the minimum support price (MSP) procurement for rabi crops in Uttar Pradesh. This extension, granted until July 8, 2026, covers wheat, gram, and masoor to ensure farmers can sell their produce at MSP without hindrances. The decision aims to prevent distress sales below MSP prices and benefit wheat, gram, and masoor growers in the state.
Emphasizing Uttar Pradesh’s significance in agriculture, Minister Chouhan highlighted that the state contributes significantly to the country’s wheat production. Acknowledging challenges like climate change and declining groundwater levels, a scientific roadmap is being developed to address crop patterns, irrigation, seeds, and technology. The roadmap, discussed with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the state’s Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, will be jointly finalized by the Centre and the state government.
