Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal stated that the Centre will provide full assistance to help Assam deal with the current flood emergency. A high-level Central team is set to visit the state soon to evaluate the damage and offer further aid.

Expressing worry about the floods, Sonowal mentioned that over 7.42 lakh individuals in 11 districts have been impacted, leading to significant harm to agriculture, livestock, residences, and businesses. He also conveyed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

Sonowal emphasized that both the Centre and the Assam government are fully committed to supporting all flood-affected citizens. He highlighted ongoing efforts by rescue teams to locate missing individuals and the collaboration between the Central and state governments for relief and rehabilitation.

A multi-disciplinary team from various Central Ministries will visit Assam to assess the affected areas thoroughly. This team will engage with the state government before presenting its findings to the Centre. Based on this assessment, special financial aid will be provided for relief, rehabilitation, and restoration work in Assam.

Praising the coordinated efforts of the Assam government and various officials in responding to the crisis, Sonowal commended the collective work in rescue and relief operations across the impacted districts. He urged national social organizations, volunteer groups, and citizens to unite in supporting the flood-affected population during this challenging time.
