Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, stated that he handed over his son to the police in a POCSO case. He emphasized the unusual step of a father cooperating with the authorities in such a matter. This action came after Cyberabad Police arrested Bandi Bhageerath on May 16 and remanded him in judicial custody.
Bandi Sanjay visited the state BJP office for the first time since his son’s arrest, where he was welcomed by party workers and supporters. Responding to queries about calls for his dismissal, he pointed out the lack of Lok Sabha MPs from his party. He also criticized KCR’s party, alleging false statements made against him.
The BJP leader refuted claims of planning to establish a new political party and highlighted the discipline within the BJP. Bandi Sanjay expressed the loyalty and commitment of party workers, emphasizing their dedication to the party. The Telangana High Court had previously denied interim protection from arrest to Bhageerath in the POCSO case.
Police had registered a case against Bhageerath under the POCSO Act following allegations of sexual assault on a minor girl. Subsequently, harsher provisions of the POCSO Act were invoked after investigations. Bhageerath’s failure to appear before the investigating officer led to his arrest after the High Court’s decision. He admitted to the offense of sexually assaulting the minor girl, leading to his arrest.
