Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, urged for a nationwide ‘Jan Andolan’ to combat cancer, diabetes, obesity, and other non-communicable diseases. He emphasized the need for a public movement focusing on prevention, early detection, and evidence-based healthcare to address the increasing burden of lifestyle disorders. Dr. Singh highlighted the importance of moving beyond hospitals to create mass awareness and promote healthy practices.

India is witnessing a rise in non-communicable diseases and a surge in health-related misinformation. Dr. Singh stressed the significance of early detection, proper medical guidance, and evidence-based healthcare to tackle the challenges effectively. He underlined the role of scientific communication in realizing the vision of a developed India.

Cancer, diabetes, obesity, and metabolic disorders pose significant health challenges in India, particularly affecting younger age groups. Dr. Singh pointed out the importance of timely screenings and immediate medical interventions to enhance survival rates, as many cancers are now treatable if detected early. He expressed concerns over the escalating rates of obesity and unhealthy lifestyles, advocating for preventive healthcare to become a national norm rather than an individual choice.
