Union Minister Giriraj Singh has urged for a privilege motion against Lok Sabha’s Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi. This call comes in response to Gandhi’s claims regarding the availability of former Army chief General M.M. Naravane’s book. The political clash has heightened amidst the ongoing parliamentary deadlock over the unreleased memoir.
Rahul Gandhi has intensified his criticism against the government and Penguin, the book’s publisher. He alleges that the memoir is already in the public domain and accuses the BJP of suppressing it. Giriraj Singh, reacting to this, insists on invoking a privilege motion against Rahul Gandhi due to the contradicting claims about the book’s publication status.
The opposition’s disruption of parliamentary proceedings and alleged disrespect towards the Prime Minister have also drawn criticism. Singh emphasizes the need for strict action against such behavior. Meanwhile, Gandhi has displayed a 2023 post by the former Army chief, challenging the authenticity of the book’s availability.
The Lok Sabha has faced repeated adjournments due to protests over General Naravane’s book. The opposition demands discussion on the book’s contents, while the government resists. Gandhi’s recent display of what he claims to be the book outside the House has further fueled tensions between the ruling party and the opposition.
