Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan criticized Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA Phool Singh Baraiya for his offensive comments linking rape to caste and religion. Baraiya’s remarks, made in a media interview, suggested that women from marginalized communities are targeted due to distorted beliefs rooted in ancient texts.
Chouhan emphasized the sanctity of daughters, stating that they should not be divided based on caste or societal norms. He expressed deep disappointment over Baraiya’s statements, calling them disgraceful and painful. Chouhan also announced financial support for a recent rape victim from the region to ensure her education and well-being.
Baraiya’s reference to a book, ‘Rudrayamal Tantra,’ claiming that sexual violence against certain caste women brings religious merit, has stirred controversy. He implied that men from specific castes view raping women as a means of spiritual reward, leading to outrage across political circles. Baraiya’s comments have sparked widespread condemnation for their insensitivity and harmful implications.
