Union Minister Pralhad Joshi criticized Karnataka MLA H.C. Balakrishna, a close associate of Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje during a press conference regarding the Bidadi Township protest issue.
Balakrishna’s comments defending the Bidadi Township Project, which has faced opposition over land acquisition and environmental concerns, included a statement suggesting the project was initiated by Karandlaje’s “Yajman” (husband), widely interpreted as a veiled reference to former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.
Joshi condemned the alleged disrespect towards women in public life by the Congress party, questioning if character assassination of women was now a part of their culture. He called Balakrishna’s comments indecent and reflective of the party’s attitude towards women, demanding an immediate apology from him.
The Union Minister called for disciplinary action against Balakrishna, challenging the Congress leadership to address the issue and questioning Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s stance on the matter. He also urged the Congress high command to take swift measures against the MLA for his remarks.
