Union Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, highlighted the importance of recovering electricity dues and enhancing strategic planning for power conservation and generation. In a state-level review meeting in Mizoram, he urged officials to ensure full collection of electricity dues and begin installing smart meters in government and commercial buildings.

Khattar also advocated for a security deposit system in the prepaid electricity metering program to boost revenue collection. He underscored the significance of effective planning for power conservation and generation, emphasizing the role of electricity in driving economic growth. Additionally, he encouraged a focus on solar energy generation and discussed plans for hydroelectric power projects on certain rivers with the state’s Power and Electricity Minister.

The meeting also addressed progress in urban development, with a focus on solid waste management. Khattar assured continued support from the Central government for urban cleanliness initiatives and waste segregation efforts. The review highlighted that 18.01% of the targeted smart meter installations have been completed in Mizoram, with ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s power distribution grid under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.
