A strong testing and certification setup is crucial for safeguarding consumer interests and enhancing product dependability, stated Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. Speaking at the inauguration of expanded testing facilities at the National Test House (NTH) campus in Mumbai, Joshi highlighted the significance of a robust quality assurance framework in ensuring product reliability and promoting business convenience. He underscored the pivotal role of top-notch testing infrastructure in the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The minister stressed the necessity of fortifying the nation’s quality ecosystem to boost the global competitiveness of Indian goods and further the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Joshi’s visit to the NTH Mumbai campus marked a significant step in augmenting the country’s quality assurance and testing infrastructure. The event commenced with a Bhoomi Pujan ceremony and the laying of the foundation stone for the upcoming expansion of testing facilities at the campus.
Acknowledging the efforts of the Department of Consumer Affairs and the National Test House in extending advanced testing capabilities nationwide, Joshi commended the initiatives aimed at making quality testing services more accessible to industries and consumers. He also inspected the laboratories at the Mumbai facility and engaged with scientists, technical experts, and officials to assess the progress of ongoing modernization projects and testing capacities.
As part of the event, the minister inaugurated a Microbiological Testing Laboratory at the National Test House in Mumbai. Additionally, he virtually inaugurated a Shoe Testing Facility at the NTH’s Northern Region center in Ghaziabad and the NTH-AURIC Satellite Centre at the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation’s AURIC City in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. These newly launched facilities are anticipated to significantly boost testing capabilities in key sectors, reinforce adherence to national and international standards, and enhance consumer safety and industrial competitiveness.
