Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, visited the Temi Tea garden in Sikkim’s Namchi district. He spent time interacting with tea garden workers, acknowledging their role in preserving Sikkim’s renowned tea heritage. Walking through the lush tea estates of Temi, the state’s only tea garden, he joined workers in plucking tea leaves.
Scindia praised the disciplined, organic agriculture at the Temi Tea Processing Unit, emphasizing its global standard. He highlighted Temi as Sikkim’s sole tea estate, situated in the Himalayas with Kanchenjunga as a backdrop, known for its organic certification and global recognition. The visit showcased Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ vision in action.
Carrying a traditional bamboo basket, Union Minister Scindia participated in tea leaf harvesting alongside workers. He commended the workers for their dedication, precision, and skill in the delicate process of tea plucking, recognizing their years of hard work and discipline. Officials noted Scindia’s admiration for the workers’ speed and expertise, essential in maintaining Temi tea’s international reputation for quality and organic cultivation.
Interacting with the workers, Scindia conversed fluently in Nepalese, fostering a warm atmosphere and connection with the local community. His use of the local language added a personal touch to the engagement, creating a sense of familiarity across the plantation. The visit underscored the government’s commitment to developing the North Eastern region and promoting its unique agricultural and cultural assets.
