Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, has arrived in Geneva to participate in the inaugural United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Arindam Bagchi, welcomed the minister at the airport. Singh will lead the Indian delegation at the event scheduled for July 6-7.
The Global Dialogue on AI Governance is a UN forum established under General Assembly Resolution 79/325. It aims to enhance international governance of artificial intelligence in alignment with various global efforts. The dialogue focuses on promoting scientific understanding, transparency, accountability, and human oversight in AI systems.
The event will include discussions on AI’s social and economic impacts, bridging AI divides, ensuring safe and trustworthy AI, and upholding human rights in the AI context. Co-chaired by representatives from El Salvador and Estonia, the dialogue will also receive the annual report of the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI.
The second session of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance is planned for May 2027 in New York, as announced by the United Nations. The dialogue seeks to advance discussions on AI governance and its implications for sustainable development globally.
