Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, marked the Sankranti festival with over 600 differently-abled employees from Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) at his Bidadi farmhouse. This tradition of celebrating Sankranti with differently-abled employees and their families has been ongoing for seven years. During the event, Kumaraswamy interacted with the families, shared the traditional Sankranti Ellu-Bella treat, and expressed his joy.
The employees, along with their parents, spouses, and children, joyfully participated in the festivities by feeding Ellu-Bella to the minister. Kumaraswamy, moved by the occasion, expressed his emotions, stating that the love and affection shown by the employees gave true meaning to his life. Witnessing this heartfelt moment, many attendees were touched, expressing their well wishes for the minister’s health and continued well-being.
In a touching gesture, Kumaraswamy praised the differently-abled employees, calling them role models for society. He acknowledged their hard work and the dignified lives they have built with government support. The minister extended his wishes for their continued success, emphasizing the importance of their progress as an inspiration to the community.
The minister’s commitment to supporting the differently-abled community was highlighted through his past actions as Chief Minister. In 2006, he appointed over 600 differently-abled individuals on a contract basis in BESCOM and KPTCL. Despite delays in regularizing their services, Kumaraswamy ensured their employment was formalized in 2018. His dedication to empowering the differently-abled was evident as he reiterated his ongoing support and pledged to work for their welfare in the future.
