Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy expressed concern over the ineffectiveness of guarantee schemes offering Rs 2,000, stating that such small amounts cannot drive development and have instead strained state finances. Addressing a gathering at a temple renovation event in Hassan district, Kumaraswamy emphasized that Rs 2,000 is insufficient to cover essential needs like healthcare and education, questioning its adequacy for major medical treatments. He also criticized the Karnataka government’s mounting debt of over Rs 7.26 lakh crore, pointing out the burden it places on every citizen.
The minister further highlighted issues of delayed salaries for government employees in Karnataka and financial struggles faced by Himachal Pradesh, attributing these challenges to the impact of guarantee schemes on governance. Kumaraswamy criticized the government for simultaneously offering Rs 2,000 benefits while imposing higher taxes, leading to increased prices in essentials like electricity and liquor. He urged voters to prioritize electing leaders focused on genuine development rather than caste-based politics, emphasizing the importance of transparent recruitment processes for public sector roles.
During the event, Kumaraswamy shared personal anecdotes of his upbringing in challenging circumstances, underscoring the value of family bonds and urging youth to prioritize familial harmony. He encouraged the youth to honor their parents’ trust and recounted his father’s hard work as a farmer, shaping his own commitment to public service. The minister also praised the developmental initiatives undertaken during his tenure, contrasting them with the alleged shortcomings of the current administration in areas such as education and healthcare.
Former minister H.D. Revanna also spoke at the event, which was attended by villagers and blessed by spiritual leaders Sri Sri Samba Sadashiva Swamiji and Sri Sri Jayadeva Swamiji. The Union Minister concluded the event with prayers at the Sri Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple.
